Position Overview:
Torque Fitness is seeking its first Director of Human Resources to build and lead the HR function for a growing fitness equipment company serving both commercial and home markets. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role — you will be both the strategist and the executor.
You will own:
- Talent acquisition and onboarding
- Benefits administration
- Compliance
- Employee relations
- Culture development
- Administrative coordinator reports to this role
- Reports to the CFO
- Serves on the Compensation Committee
- Partners with Finance leadership on compensation

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Own full-cycle recruiting across all departments
- Partner with department heads on hiring forecasts
- Build recruiting pipelines (job boards, trade schools, etc.)
- Implement structured interview process with scorecards
- Manage employer branding
Benefits Administration & Compensation Committee Support
- Support compensation structure (salary, hourly, commission, bonus)
- Serve on Compensation Committee
- Support KPI bonus program tracking and coordination
- Assist with sales compensation processes
- Conduct annual compensation benchmarking
- Administer benefits (health, dental, vision, 401k, PTO)
- Manage open enrollment and vendor relationships
- Coordinate with Finance on compliance and payroll accuracy
Employee Relations & Culture
- Handle employee relations issues (conflict, performance, investigations)
- Maintain high-performance culture
- Develop engagement and retention initiatives
- Coach managers on leadership and performance management
- Conduct stay and exit interviews
Performance Management & Development
- Design company-wide performance review process
- Align KPIs to company profitability goals
- Identify and implement training programs
- Create career pathing frameworks
- Manage onboarding effectiveness (first 90 days)
Training & Development
- Build company-wide training program (greenfield)
- Develop onboarding and role-specific training
- Create product knowledge training
- Implement leadership training for managers
- Coordinate safety and OSHA training
- Develop sales training programs
- Manage external training resources and budget
- Track training completion and effectiveness
- Build cross-training programs
Compliance, Policy & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state (MN), and local laws
- Maintain employee handbook and policies
- Oversee workplace safety programs
- Manage I-9s, background checks, documentation
- Maintain HRIS and employee records
Strategic HR Partnership
- Serve on leadership team
- Support organizational design and workforce planning
- Partner with CFO on budgeting
- Advise on organizational structure
- Support M&A integration if applicable
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 7–10+ years HR experience
- 3+ years in leadership or sole HR role
- Experience building HR systems from scratch (50–150 employees)
- Strong employment law knowledge (Minnesota)
- Compensation program experience
- C-suite partnership experience
- Multi-function recruiting experience
- Strong employee relations skills
- SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certification
- Bachelor’s degree
