5 TANK™ Myths That Every Sled User Needs to Know!

Many TANK Sled misconceptions are floating around, so we’re taking to our blog to debunk 5 of the most common. It’s time to learn the truth about Torque TANK internal resistance sleds so you can confidently get to sled training.

Myth 1: Putting the TANK on level 2 makes it just as hard for one person to push as it is for another.

Unlike other workout sleds, the faster you push a TANK Sled the harder it gets. TANK™ resistance/difficulty is proportional to the speed — meaning that the faster you push the TANK™, the more resistance there is at any level. As seen in ‘The TANK Power Curve’ graphic below, resistance is increased when running speed is increased, leading to explosive power! Test out a TANK push sled and you’ll find that your limits are tested, that’s why people worldwide are using the TANK for their exercise regimen.

Myth 3: You always need to add weight to a TANK sled.

You may have seen posts on social media of people pushing a TANK piled high with weight plates. However, weight is only needed on rare occasions to help with traction while pushing or pulling a TANK sled, especially if you are on a ‘looser’ surface or training at high speeds. For example, we recommend adding no more than 270 pounds of weight to the TANK M1 when you are sprint training to ensure the front wheel remains in contact with the ground. Add 270 lbs. or less of weight plates to any TANK weight horns or add a pair of 20 lb. dumbbells to a TANK M1 with the TANK M1 Dumbbell Cradles attachment. It is also important to note that putting too much weight onto a TANK magnetic resistance sled can cause its tires to pop or wear down faster which is not intended.

Myth 5: You can’t use the TANK if you are a certain age, weight, height, or ability.

Whether you’ve seen the videos of professional athletes pushing the TANK at competitions or not, you may feel like you are not cut out for the challenge of working out with a TANK magnetic resistance sled yourself. Nevertheless, the TANK has been used by all people regardless of demographic or physical fitness ability. Even those recovering from certain injuries and working with physical therapists have used the TANK regularly. Both 90-year-old grandmothers and NFL quarterbacks love the TANK and use it to increase their strength and overall fitness. You can use the TANK sled at your own pace and resistance level to reach your goals – it is never too late to start!

Myth 2: Putting weight plates on the TANK makes pushing harder.

Despite what some people think, putting weight on TANK sleds does not actually change the resistance or make training more difficult.Unlike traditional sleds, all the resistance comes with the simple flip of the lever, thanks to TANK’s™ innovative braking system. As a special bonus, the TANK MX push sled comes with MX Mode – whenever this lever is engaged all resistance is increased by 25%! Good luck to any athletes who take on the challenge!

Myth 4: The TANK is one of the more expensive workout sleds on the market and is like other workout sleds.

Depending on how much research you’ve done, it may feel like TANK sleds are just another workout sled but at a higher price. Or maybe you see the TANK as an ideal training tool for the wealthy, a cool item that is far beyond your home gym budget. Although the many celebrity TANK Instagram posts can make it seem unattainable, the price point of a TANK is a great deal compared to many traditional and non-traditional weight sleds with fewer features, especially during one of our monthly promotions. The TANK can also be paid off in small monthly payments at no interest when you use Affirm. In addition, the Torque TANK is the original magnetic resistance sled and doesn’t make noise like traditional sleds. The TANK is silent so you can always get that early morning workout without waking up your neighbors! The TANK resistance sled is not just another workout sled. It offers many features and endless training options for households of varying incomes.

You may have discovered that sled training with the TANK is unique and not as you once thought. Features and best practices can differ from basic workout sleds as the TANK push sled provides less hassle all while maintaining a strength and cardio challenge tailored to each user. We hope you learned a lot and enjoyed debunking the top 5 TANK sled myths. Which myth did you find most surprising?
