Free-Standing F9

Very impressed with the Torque F9 so far. Solid build quality, smooth cable movement, and the fold-away design works great for home use. The 225 lb stacks were definitely the right choice. Setup and curbside freight delivery were the toughest parts, but once assembled, the machine feels premium and commercial-grade. Great option if you want a serious home gym setup without sacrificing space.

I was bracing for a complicated build but it was very straight forward. Easier with 2 people in a couple steps, but I was Ble to do it by myself. The screws, nuts, etc are placed in individual bags corresponding to what step you’re on (i.e., as easy as picking up the bag labeled “step 5” when you’re looking at step 5 of the instructions.)

There was one small piece that was missing; I emailed on Sunday night, got a response 6am Monday morning, and received the part on Wednesday.

My son and I are going to be HUGE pretty soon :)

Not a small investment but the equipment, build, and service all exceeded my expectations. Really impressed.

I got my F9 a little over a week ago and have been generally very pleased. Giving it five stars overall, but it’s not perfect. There are some areas where torque could improve the product at this price point.

It was easy to assemble despite the somewhat lacking instruction manual. It really helps to use the PDF version because the printing quality of the manual is rather poor and it can be hard to make out details. Luckily, the quality of the drawings is good in the PDF. Still, would it kill you to make a video?

One particularly cool thing about the F9 is the ability to adjust the width. I’m a big dude with a big arm span. Most functional trainers are 48 inches or less between the pulley rods. This is great for things like chest press, but too narrow for an ideal fly. With the F9, I can pop it open to wide mode and it adds another 10 inches between the pulleys. That makes for a lot more flexibility. I honestly didn’t care about being able to close it and never do. I bought this because I could vary the width and have been very pleased with that flexibility.

Build quality is great although it’d be nice to see aluminum pulleys instead of plastic. It’s not a big deal, but aluminum pulleys look way better and at this price point, they should at least be an option.

The one disappointing aspect of the F9 is one that is the same for most functional trainers. The attachments are mostly mediocre. The D handles are not terrible but it’s such a coincidence that the best grip pattern for the D handles is the torque logo. The foot attachment is not very useful for anything but kickback and even then, it’s not great.

The straight bar is nice though. Some knurling or positioning marks would be helpful, but it’s a nice bar. The squat harness is very cool too. It works perfectly and is pretty comfy. The strap is also basic, but useful.

I’ve already purchased replacements for almost every attachment. The only ones I’ll use long term are the harness and the strap.

Overall, the F9 is fantastic. I’d highly recommend one for anyone looking for a home functional trainer. I’m 6’ 2” and it works for me, but anyone taller might find it a little short. You also have to think of attachment length. For example, I got a 24” tricep rope instead of the more standard 28 inch.

Did some research on functional trainers to find something well built and compact to fit in a bedroom vacated by our grown son. The bedroom is still going to be utilized as a guest room with the adding of a Murphy bed cabinet. The room is about 12x12 and the Torque F9 trainer fits the bill. I do have some knowledge of tools, so the trainer took me about 3-4 hours to build from unpacking and carrying up to the 2nd floor piece by piece. The instructions were easy to follow and all parts and welds are of high quality. I think it’s about as close as you can get to a commercial grade piece of equipment for a much lower cost. We like it because it folds up to a small footprint for when we use the room to accommodate guests but when in use folds out to a fully functional trainer. Have had it for a month now and everything seems to still be tight. I recommend purchasing the recommended bench. It fits perfectly and safely stored within unit when closed down. Overall very happy with my purchase. If I had one complaint and it’s not a deal breaker; I would have liked to see a better internal storage rack for handles and bar accessories. But really not a big deal, gonna install an external rack on wall outside unit. Thank you Torque… It’s just what I needed to accommodate my smaller space and still give the performance of a gym membership.

The Free-Standing F-9 Fold-Away Functional Trainer is a perfect addition to complete my home gym! It's sharp looking, love the fold away design, can do anything and everything workout wise on this one machine. After I put in my order online at Torque Fitness the machine shipped quick, went up quick, and the gains will be coming quick!

Great piece of equipment. Took about 4 hours to put it together including the bench, but nothing was especially difficult. I've had two excellent workouts on it and looking forward to many more.

Happy to report that both my wife and myself absolutely love our new Torque Trainer. We are in our 60's and have both been active in the gym for the last 45 yrs. However when Covid hit we lost our desire to get back into the gym. We researched home systems like mad... Expensive (Tonal) to cheap (unknown systems) there was nothing that checked off all the boxes. So when I came across the Torque Folding Cable Trainer it was an instant purchase. We both love the flexibility and variety of weight training this affords, It fits perfectly in our great room corner across from our treadmill and hybrid stepper... and then it folds so nicely out of the way... AMAZING !

I absolutely love this machine. Wanted something high quality that I could use at home. Was at my house in 2 days. Took my wife and I about 5-6 hours to open the box, move to the area we wanted to assemble, and put together. Instructions were very clear. Now I feel like I have a gym in my basement. We love how it folds up. It allows us more usable space, but also keeps it safe from kids when it's closed up. Absolutely love it! Would highly recommend.

Max from Torque reached out to me after having this in my cart for a few days and answered a ton of questions I had about this product. I bought this right around labor day and scored on a good deal on a 200lb stack with the bench. The trainer itself was delivered in a precise window that I asked for on a Friday, and I had it assembled completely by the end of the weekend. After using it for roughly a month, this thing has been amazing. As a parent, going to the gym has always been difficult with a toddler due to having a small amount of time to workout, including travel time. Now I can go to my garage, take my son with me and workout for as long as I want. The 200lb stacks are challenging enough with the 2:1 ratio. I bought a couple of attachments to make some exercises easier, like rows and triceps extensions. It took me about 12-14 hours to assemble it over two days, but it was very straightforward. I had to buy some extensions when connecting the frame together because the bolts had to go deep into the frame which was frustrating, but the product is well built. The added bench is also useful for dumbbell workouts too, and the multiple stacks can allow two people to workout at once for certain exercises. Really appreciate this product and how great it looks.

This equipment is exactly what I expected and needed to finish our gym room! Took a few hours to put together, but well worth it!

Would be nice if it was a little taller. I'm 5'9" and have to hunch down just to do a tricep pushdown. The fold away sides might be nice I guess for someone who is really crunched on space, but I'm not liking that feature as I've noticed I have to put my foot against the side to keep it from moving when doing any pulling exercises. Otherwise it moves a little at the bolt that holds it in place. I'll be honest in that I'm used to commercial equipment so maybe my standards are too high. It will do the job at least. Customer service with this company has always been good. They are very quick at getting product out. Used to order commerical equipment from them when I owned a gym and they had good service then too.

A couple of the weight plates got dinged up when the pallet was dropped in the driveway by the shipper. They are still functional, but the pallet was too big for their equipment. Love the functional trainer!
